Heart Health in Winter

When Winter rolls around the first thing we think about is the cold or the flu. However, one thing we do not think about is heart health. Did you know that studies conducted show that 35% more heart attacks occur during the Winter months vs. Summer months. Why is this? There are all kinds of different reasons but some of the most common are: Sedentary lifestyle and increased food consumption (More of the "bad" foods vs. "good" foods). Protect yourself and your heart this Winter by trying out one or more of the following: beginning a regular exercise program, prepare more heart healthy meals using foods like pomegranate, fish, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while also watching your fat intake - try to reduce saturated fats and trans fats, and find new ways to escape from stess. After all, we only have one heart, protect it to the fullest!
