The skinny on B Vitamins

I was reading an article this afternoon, and thought I would share some insight on how powerful B vitamins really are and their many benefits, including aiding in weight loss and energy production.

The B vitamins consist of six water soluble vitamins: Vitamin B1 – Thiamine, Vitamin B2 – Riboflavin, Vitamin B3 – Niacin, Vitamin B5 – Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B6 – Pyridoxine and Vitamin B12 – Cyanocobalamin. Since these vitamins are water soluble, it is important that they be consumed regularly in the diet because they are not stored efficiently in the body. Lack of B vitamins in the body can result from fasting, weight loss, a diet intake that is heavy in sugar and refined/processed foods, and alcohol use. Some of the more “well known and used” B vitamins are B1, B2, B6 and B12. Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) is involved in the production of glucose (or energy) for the brain and nervous system, to ensure they are working effectively. Without enough energy to the brain and nervous system, a person can become forgetful, depressed, tired and apathetic. Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) also helps to keep the heart beating strongly and healthily, because it keeps the heart muscle elastic. Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) is vital for normal reproduction, growth, repair and development of body tissues including the skin, hair, nails, connective tissue and immune system. Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is the major vitamin in the processing of amino acids, the building blocks of all proteins and some hormones and neurotransmitters including prolactin, serotonin, melatonin, and dopamine. Because vitamin B6 is an essential nutrient for the nervous system, it can regulate mental processes and mood. Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) is essential for the normal function of all our bodies’ cells, and plays a critical role in energy metabolism. Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell production and is also required for folic acid metabolism.

As you will see in the article, to start your day the vitamin B way, try the following foods for breakfast to increase your intake of vitamin B first thing in the morning. Try eating 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/2 cup of milk or low fat yogurt, sprinkled with sunflower seeds, brewer's yeast and strawberries with one scrambled egg served with tomatoes, broccoli, and 1/4 of an avocado for breakfast and see if you do not feel more energized throughout the day!

The article also shows another fun way to get your vitamin B fix is to make a smoothie. Mix either low-fat milk or yoghurt, with a banana, berries and some sunflower seeds. This too will make your energy level increase.

Another easy way to ensure that you are getting your B vitamins is with Market Australia’s Isotonix Vitamin B-12 Special Formula. It delivers a potent blend of B vitamins and minerals that are perfect to add to your daily Isotonix regimen to reap the benefits and ensure you are on your way to optimal health!

Vitamin D = A Ray of Sunshine!

Men, it’s time to take a break and head outside for some time in the sun! Vitamin D has been in the news a lot lately, especially Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and its benefits associated to protecting one’s health. Vitamin D, also referred to as the sunshine vitamin, is produced naturally in the body through exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays. However, since it is practically impossible to be outside everyday in the sunshine, supplementation of Vitamin D is a wonderful alternative.

The Vitamin D Council commented on an article posted on ABC online that stated “Couples struggling to conceive should move their focus out of the bedroom and on to the beach.”
This article highlighted a paper presented to the Fertility Society of Australia conference, where Dr. Anne Clark shows Vitamin D deficiency may play a major role in male infertility. The fertility society of Australia states that one in six Australian couples suffer infertility. Infertility is the inability of a couple to achieve conception after a year of unprotected intercourse, or the inability to carry pregnancies to a live birth. Many couples suffering infertility problems can be successfully treated with medical or surgical techniques, or lifestyle changes.

But men, do not think you are alone, Vitamin D and folic acid deficiency are known to be associated with infertility in women. So, in addition to Vitamin D, folic acid is also very important for the diets of both men and women, especially women when you are contemplating pregnancy. According to Dr. Anne Clark, "The amount of sun needed is just 10 to 15 minutes a day outside the heat of the day." So head to the beach, get some sunshine, and make sure to equip yourself with Vitamin D3 and folic acid rich supplements, such as Market Australia’s Prime™ Balance and Isotonix™ MultiTech™!

Establish Healthy Habits Early in Your Child’s Life.

Even though I do not have any children of my own yet, I absolutely love kids! I love to watch them play, grow, and learn from the people who they look up to, and are exposed to. From infancy all the way to adolescence children grow, learn, and develop so much! What happens in the early stages of a child’s life determines their development throughout the rest of their life.

A child’s early years are a critical period for establishing healthy eating and physical activity behaviours. Nutritious food and regular physical activity support the normal growth and development of children and reduce the risk of developing chronic lifestyle diseases including obesity.

Providing your child with the correct amount of vitamins and minerals necessary is one step toward optimal health for your pride and joy!

While it may be a challenge to get your child to eat healthy, making sure they receive the proper levels of vitamins and minerals isn’t! With Market Australia’s Isotonix™ Might-A-Mins Children's Multivitamin, your child will get most of the necessary vitamins and minerals their growing bodies need in the perfect "isotonic" speedy delivery system which also tastes great too! Your kids will look forward to it every day, and you’ll be glad to know you’re helping them establish healthy habits early in life!

Take Care of What Holds you Up!!

Your skeleton is fundamentally what holds your body together. It is made up of around 206 bones, which hold you upright and provide support for your body. It is important to provide your body, and especially your bones, with an adequate amount of calcium. If you don’t, osteoporosis can occur. Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones lose calcium and other minerals, become fragile and tend to fracture more easily. In Australia, osteoporosis affects one in two females and one in three males over the age of 60. One way to ensure that you are getting the appropriate amount of calcium is with Prime Balance. Prime Balance is a source of calcium, supports skeletal health, and may assist in the prevention and/or treatment of osteoporosis. Another important and easy way to protect yourself from osteoporosis is through regular consumption of calcium, and even if you do not like milk, there are plenty of alternative sources! So eat and drink your calcium and care of your frame!

Cell phone radiation

I bought a new cell phone a couple of month's ago. I was reading the user guide and other information that came along with it, and I was surprised to find that in five different places in all of this literature, were warnings that cell phones may be harmful to your health. Perhaps these warnings have always been there and I was oblivious to them before, nonetheless, I noticed them. Of course, it didn't come right out and say that they were dangerous, it was the same U.S. FDA babble, "not proven to be harmful... yada, yada, yada." However, right there, in five different places, the cell phone company was telling me that my cell phone might be hazardous to my health.

Here is another article highlighting the debate about cell phones and their potential effect on health.

Make household cleaning a Snap

This year at Convention, we re-launched many of your favorite Snap products. If you're new to the business or have forgotten about Snap, go the portal and check it out. You are cleaning your houses, right??? If you aren't using Snap to clean your home – you're throwing your money down the toilet.

All Snap products are made of plant-based ingredients, are readily biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Snap products are based on cosmetic chemistry which means that they are pharmaceutical and personal care grade – so the products that you use to clean your home are just as safe as what you use to clean your hair and body. Snap products are ultra concentrated, so you get more uses out of one bottle and the best bang for your buck.

Let's go over how much you can save by using Snap.

Snap Dishwashing Liquid does up to 350 sink-full’s of dishes – that's 22% more than the leading 739 ml bottle and twice the cleaning power.

Snap Laundry Detergent does up to 80 loads of laundry - that's 25% more than the leading 3 L bottle.

Snap All-Purpose Natural Concentrate has a variety of uses; as a window cleaner – one bottle replace over 1000 bottles of the leading glass cleaner. As a general all-purpose cleaner – three capfuls of Snap All-Purpose Natural Concentrate equals one bottle of the leading all-purpose cleaner.

Snap Heavy-Duty Concentrate replaces up to 16 bottles of the leading spot and stain remover. The Heavy-Duty Concentrate is an industrial-strength cleaner with a variety of home and commercial uses.

Embracing Market Australia's philosophy of being a product of the product, many of us around the office use the Snap line of cleaning products. I love Snap, not only because it's economical and works great – but it gives me peace-of-mind, knowing that they are biodegradable and safe to use. I am very environmentally conscious, so using something that is environmentally friendly and just as powerful as harsh chemicals gets me very excited. If you aren't using Snap – try it out; you'll be glad you made your household cleaning a Snap!

Controlling Cholesterol

High cholesterol is often associated with heart disease in the United States. A diet that is high in saturated fat and cholesterol can increase your cholesterol levels. Reducing the amount of saturated fat and cholesterol in your diet can help lower your cholesterol. Foods that are high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids can assist in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds are high in monounsaturated fats, which is a good fat. They are also very high in fiber and phytosterols that may have cardio-protective effects. Another food to consider would be oatmeal, which is very high in soluble fiber. The high amounts of fiber not only give you a feeling of satiety, but it may reduce the absorption of cholesterol in the bloodstream. Omega-3 fatty acids are by far of the best of the good fats. They can be found in fatty fish, such as tuna, halibut, and especially salmon. Our fast-paced lifestyles do not always allow us to eat like we should or want to.

Market America's Heart Health Essential Omega III Fish Oil with Vitamin E provides three grams of EPA and DHA daily. Three grams of EPA and DHA have been proven and FDA supported to clinically promote cardiovascular health and help maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Market America's NutriClean Advanced Fiber Powder provides nine grams of fiber in each serving. Most Americans do not meet the necessary daily fiber intake. NutriClean fiber can help support a healthy fiber intake. It also supports normal bowel movement, healthy cholesterol, and normal blood glucose levels.

With the combination of the right diet, Omega III Fish Oil, and Nutriclean Fiber Powder, you can knock out high cholesterol before it begins!

Pycnogenol in the news

We are excited to announce a new study that reveals Pycnogenol® naturally reduces osteoarthritis. The study revealed Pycnogenol’s® capability to dramatically lower joint pain, stiffness, improve physical function and increase patients mobility almost three-fold.

The study, conducted at Italy’s Chieti-Pescara University is published in the April edition of Phytotherapy Research. The research sampled 156 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee and evaluated their symptoms on WOMAC index scores and by recording patient’s walking performance on a treadmill.

The benefits of Pycnogenol® for arthritic joints are suggested to result predominately from the anti-inflammatory and vascular potency of Pycnogenol®. There are additional break through studies on Pycnogenol® and osteoarthritis expected to be published this year allowing for development of innovative, natural formulas for joint health.

For more information on this particular study, click here.
